Domenico 2006 Primitivo
May 17, 2010 No CommentsAlso called Zingarello, this red grape is mainly grown in Apulia, southern Italy, where it makes a heavy, strong wine, often with a strong alcoholic potency. DNA testing has confirmed that Primitivo is, in fact, genetically related to California’s Zinfandel.
Aromas of plum cherry, currants, caramel , and earth rise up from a glass. With a sip, cherry, raspberry, and plum blend with notes of sweet spice and earth. Fairly round and slightly sweet, the wine is quite fruity but the tannins are well balanced. Those that shy away from spicy reds and want smooth, jammy wines should give this bottle a try.
