Mac Murray Ranch 2007 Winemaker’s Block Pinot Noir
June 2, 2010 No CommentsThe Russian River Valley is one of California’s most celebrated sources of world class Pinot Noir. The region is blessed with strong maritime influences, specifically, a cool climate defined by the fog that follows the river valley to blanket the vineyards. Warm days and cool nights encourage distinct varietal characters in the ripening grapes. Since the 1960’s, the Russian River Valley has been home to the pioneers of New World Pinot Noir.

One need not be a fan of Pinot to relish this wine. A gorgeous nose of strawberry, cherry, vanilla, with hints of smoky earth might keep you swirling your glass for a few minutes. Strawberry, cherry, and currants merge brilliantly on the palate, finishing with the soft kiss of sweet spice. At $60, it may not be an everyday wine but when quality is your goal, it won’t disappoint.
