Pierce Ranch 2008 Albarino
June 2, 2010 No CommentsPerhaps the most highly prized white grape of Spain and Portugal, Albariño is in many ways the crown jewel of Iberian whites. Famous for the crisp, full-flavored wines it produces in Galicia, this varietal is also used to make the refreshing but comparatively lightweight Vinho Verde of the Minho Valley in Portugal.

Review
Winemaker Ian Brand offers up his own take on this classic Spanish varietal. The nose is lively and enticing with aromas of peach nectar, sweet lime, and fresh lemon. The palate is bright and citrusy, with notes of tangerine and lemon balanced by lush peach flavors. A pleasant acidity and round mouthfeel make it a very pleasant wine. Anyone looking for something beyond Sauvignon Blanc should give this bottle a try.
